Recently, two of the top five global leading paper companies—WestRock from the United States and Smurfit Kappa from Ireland—are engaged in in-depth merger negotiations, aiming to create a global behemoth valued at nearly 20 billion US dollars.
Once merged, the combined entity will become the world's largest paper packaging group. The business will span 42 countries globally, with a particularly strong presence in Europe and the Americas. The group will operate 67 factories with more than 500 production lines.
The new group will be named Smurfit WestRock, with its global headquarters located in Dublin and its Americas operations based in Atlanta, Georgia.
Currently, the merger is pending the approval of the shareholders of both Smurfit Kappa and WestRock, as well as the permission of regulatory authorities.
